Youth Work
Kenya 2009
Up to a dozen members of the Swift Centre Youth Group will be going to Nairobi in August 2009 to help with the building of a community centre. The trip will cost approximately £20,000. The members are raising funds in a number of ways:
Bike Europe
In 2007 a group of young people cycled 2000 miles through Europe to raise sponsorship for an overseas expedition.

Manual Labour
They have washed cars
School Competitions
They have organised a PS III tournament at St Bonaventure’s School.
Football Festival
They have run a 5-a-side football festival

Sponsored Cycle Ride
There will be a sponsored cycle ride over all the London Bridges (and one ferry) from Richmond to Woolwich in February.

Future fundraising initiatives include:
An Entrepreneurial Challenge. Each member of the team will have to identify a product or service that they can sell; they will have to identify what materials they will need, identify their market and decide how they will advertise and promote their product. They will then have to sell it and reinvest to sell more.
They will each be given £10 (yes we know it’s a risk!), and they will have eight weeks in which to make that £10 grow. For the biblical scholars, yes it is like the parable of the talents.
Sales of Goods
We will also be selling items on ebay and at boot sales and jumble sales and making applications to grant awarding bodies.
Mobile Phone Sale
We are collecting unwanted mobile phones and selling them on.
