Our youth work is open four nights PW. The ethos on each night is a little different.
Monday is a discussion Group. It has between 12-20 young people per night Mark and Jayne continue to support this and Simeon shares leadership of the evening with them.
Tuesday is an open youth club is intended as an intense activity night with 15-25 young people per night .
Thursday is based on performing arts (drama, music, spoken word and behind the scenes operations). It is run by a group of young people and co-ordinated by Simeon.
Friday is an open youth club intended to build upon the personal responsibility and leadership model of work with 25-35 young people per night.
Mentoring & Leadership
We run a mentoring programme with the support of our volunteers and this supports eight to 12 young people a year.
Alongside this we run a leadership group with 6-10 young people working expressly on development of skills and abilities, personal understanding and citizenship.
We are funded to provide two nights of open youth work per week by the London Borough of Newham.
Here is what Ola Ojuko thinks about The Swift Centre
“The youth club acts as a retreat for young people, but not a retreat in the sense of relaxation! It provides a warm atmosphere where kids can just be themselves and do things that they want to do in a positive supportive environment.”
